Complete a pre-operation inspection and confirm that the brakes, steering, forks, mast, hydraulic system, battery, controls, lights, alarms, and other safety systems are operating correctly.

Some electric forklifts are suitable for outdoor use. Check the forklift specifications, tire type, ground clearance, weather conditions, surface condition, and manufacturer operating requirements before outdoor operation.

Inspect the forks for cracks, bending, excessive wear, or damage. Check the mast, lift chains, rollers, hydraulic components, and visible structural areas for wear, leaks, or unusual movement.

Check the forklift's rated capacity plate and compare it with the weight of the load. Load center, lifting height, attachments, and load position can also affect the forklift's safe lifting capacity.

Test the steering, brakes, accelerator, forward and reverse functions, lifting controls, tilt controls, horn, warning lights, alarms, emergency systems, and other required operating controls.

Keep the load centered and balanced across both forks. Fully position the forks under the load and keep the load stable during lifting and travel. Avoid exceeding the rated capacity.

Required protective equipment depends on the workplace and job conditions. Operators should follow facility safety procedures, manufacturer instructions, and employer requirements for appropriate personal protective equipment.

Battery runtime depends on battery capacity, battery type, forklift model, workload, operating conditions, temperature, charging practices, and the intensity of daily use.

Stop using the electric forklift and report the issue according to workplace procedures. Problems that could affect safe operation should be properly evaluated and repaired before the forklift returns to service.

A pre-use inspection should be part of the normal operating routine. Scheduled maintenance and more detailed inspections should also follow the forklift manufacturer's recommended service intervals and workplace procedures.
